Allapa Sallapa/Aalumai/Point of View
A series of 30 x 25 minute TV Talk shows in Sinhala/Tamil/English,
ALLAAPA SALLAPA/AALUMAI/POINT OF VIEW is moderated by Sumika Perera, Shanthi Satchithanandan and Sunila Galappaty, for broadcast from September to December 2008.
Designed as a studio-based talk show series, the programme features the moderator and 3 or 4 panelists in a discussion that presents diverse views and examines solutions on important national issues. Each programme begins with a short video clip that highlights the topic and sets the scene for the discussion. Through a participatory and consultative process of dialogue and discussion, women from the different provinces of Sri Lanka address the following issues:
- Bringing women into Politics - quotas and other challenges
- Peace, Politics and Public Life - engaging women
- Is there Racism in our Society?
- Conflict Resolution and the Ground Reality
- Who is the Head of the Household - The Role of the Woman in the Family
- Development Matters - for Women too!
- Highest Earners - Lowest Status: Women, Labour and Employment
- Reproductive Health and Sexuality - Individual Rights
- Image and Ideology - Women in the Media
- Identity Politics: Religion, Ethnicity and Extremism
- The Constitution and the Rights of Women
ALLAAPA SALLAPA/AALUMAI/POINT OF VIEW has also been adapted for Radio. The project is a collaboration of Young Asia Television and The Women and Media Colelctive, with support from Women's Campaign International.
