Produced in 2004, this 13 episode tele-drama series reflects the hopes and aspirations of all communities in Sri Lanka, and highlights the cost of conflict on fragile community relations. It was shot on location in Jaffna, against the backdrop of the post-conflict recovery of the North.

The story revolves around three families, each with their own experience and perspective of the war, whose paths cross on a visit to Jaffna,  that was made possible as a result of the opening of the A9. It is a symbolic journey of discovery for all three families, from the Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities, and the realisation of the common human experience that binds them together.

This series is an attempt at facilitating a wider understanding of the complexities of the ethnic conflict, and towards promoting the values of mutual understanding, tolerance and co-operation among communities.

The popular appeal of the tele-drama format allows TAKE THIS ROAD to capture the imagination and attention of the general public, on the important topic, of reconciling communities.

Directed by award-winner Asoka Handagama, TAKE THIS ROAD was developed through a unique process of discussion and debate, ensuring the representation of all the stakeholders in Sri Lanka's peace process.

The Series is bilingual (Sinhala and Tamil) with English Subtitles and has been broadcast several times in Sri Lanka as well as screened extensively at workshops and seminars and in universities. Take This Road was funded by the Academy for Educational Development (AED) Sri Lanka Peace Support Project under a grant from USAID (United States Agency for International Development).
